The Laboratory of Dr. Edward Schuchman at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine
Niemann-Pick Disease, Types A and B
Cell lines for NPA and NPB are banked through the International Center for Types A and B Niemann-Pick Disease at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Anyone interested in donating can contact Dr. Edward Schuchman at (212) 659-6711 or
edward.schuchman@mssm.edu for more information. Currently, over 100 cell lines, primarily from the blood, are stored. These are sent out to researchers when they are requested.
Tissue samples to be used in research can also be stored at the Center. At this time, the supply is limited and donations would be gratefully accepted. Dr. Schuchman notes that tissue samples from biopsies, as well as donations from deceased individuals, can be stored and made available for researchers. We understand that this is a very personal and sometimes difficult decision that will not be right for everyone. Those who have questions or who would like to donate can make arrangements for the donation of NPA/B tissues by contacting Dr. Schuchman.
